William Hays embarked on his career as a fine artist with his first solo exhibition at The Collector's Gallery in Anchorage, Alaska in 1980. His watercolors were a hit and he has been showing his works continuously since then (though not in Alaska anymore). In 1990, he opened The Artist's Loft Fine Art Gallery in Brattleboro, Vermont, adjoining his studio. There he worked until April of 2015 when he closed the gallery and moved his studio into his home.
William worked in watercolor and oils from the time he was 15 years old. His mastery of oil paintings gradually gave way to printmaking after beginning explorations in linoleum block printing in 2007. By 2012 he had devoted his efforts solely into linocut prints. His linoleum block prints are the epitome of the printmaker's art. His prints are carried by a selection of galleries in northeastern United States and Maritime Canada and are available for purchase through this website.
Although The Artist's Loft Gallery is no longer on Main Street in Brattleboro, Vermont, this online gallery features a large selection of Hays' works. William welcomes visitors to his studio/home. Contact him to let him know when to expect you. If you're not able to visit in person, William regularly posts his studio projects on Facebook. You can also follow his work on this website by subscribing to his newsletter/blog.
