"Oil painting landscapes of Vermont, New England and Nova Scotia have been the mainstay of my work for more than 20 years. I am a studio painter and feel that painting on location with oils is neither pleasant nor convenient. If I am going to paint on location, I do so with watercolors to quickly capture a composition and mood. In the studio I'm free of the need to depict a scene as it actually is. I focus my attention to the composition in the canvas and try to use that composition to carry the feeling and mood of the scene which inspired the painting - whether a real place or a purely personal creation.
