"March Thaw"
Oil on Canvas 28" x 38"

"The Connecticut River is the view from my studio. Each winter it freezes. Sometimes it freezes very thick and is slow to break up into open water again. Sometimes the thaw happens while the ice remains intact. The river seeps up through the ice and there is clear, cold water on top of the ice. Depressions in the ice form pools and those pools take on the most remarkable blue tones. They don't last long but long enough to inspire this painting."
