Birds along the coast are frequent companions on the quiet beaches of Nova Scotia. Piping Plovers are most often seen scurrying through the thin sheets of water sliding into the sea from receding waves. Their little legs move so fast that you can hardly see them while they keep their bills down in the water to collect various tiny crustaceans. When they take to flight, it is often just inches above the surface of the beach.
