"I had the privilege of spending twelve summers in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. In August and September the flowers were lovely and the Monarch butterflies would arrive to take advantage of the bounty. The print was done in six impressions. The last was the golden yellow over the black. It was not intense enough for me. I did not have a press at the time and I had done so many impressions, rubbing by hand, that summer that my arms and hands could not face another printing. So I painted in the lower/center butterfly by hand."
